Punjab Government Announces Free Bus Travel for NEET Students Across State Amid Exam Support Drive
Punjab government announces free travel for NEET UG aspirants on Punjab Roadways buses for June 20–22 to ease financial burden on students appearing for the June 21 examination. The initiative follows concerns raised by students during interactions and aims to ensure equal access to examination centres amid ongoing investigations into the earlier cancelled test.
According to the announcement, students appearing for the NEET UG examination, scheduled for June 21, will be eligible for free travel on Punjab Roadways buses for three days—June 20, June 21, and June 22. The state government stated that many underprivileged students struggle even to afford transportation to examination centres, and the initiative is intended to ensure that no candidate misses the examination due to financial constraints. Students will be required to present their admit cards to avail the free travel facility, and no fare will be charged.
The announcement follows a public interaction in which Arvind Kejriwal reportedly spoke with NEET aspirants, during which students raised concerns regarding financial difficulties and requested assistance.
The NEET UG examination is scheduled to be conducted on June 21. Earlier, the examination held on May 3 was cancelled on May 11 following allegations of a question paper leak, prompting a high-level investigation. The Central Bureau of Investigation is currently probing the matter to determine accountability and procedural lapses.
The Punjab government’s decision is being viewed as a logistical and financial relief measure aimed at ensuring equal access to competitive examinations for all eligible candidates, particularly those from economically weaker sections.
